2017 marked a year of new adventures for our Girls’ Brigade Company.
Firstly, we would like to acknowledge God’s abundant blessings as our Company attained the Sustained Gold Award for 15 consecutive years in 2017. In April, we bade farewell to our seniors during the POP 2017 parade and welcomed our new batch of recruits on 9th April this year with the annual Combined Girls’ Brigade and Boys’ Brigade Enrolment Service.
Apart from our annual March Training and Recruits’ Camps, we had some fun activities added this year. These include visiting a Trampoline Park and having a picnic at the Botanic Gardens. In Semester 2, our girls flexed their muscles and developed perseverance when they took part in a three-session Dragon Boating course at Pandan Reservoir. It was truly a memorable and exciting bonding experience!
Our girls also participated in many service learning projects this year. From serving the elderly community at All Saints Home in Jurong and Tampines to organising a 4-day day camp programme for children at PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Jalan Kayu, our girls pushed themselves, stepped out of their comfort zones and learnt how to listen and discover the needs of others before devising creative ways to meeting them effectively.
We rounded up the year with an Adventure Camp in November where the girls were challenged to step out of their comfort zones and engage in physical outdoor activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering, trekking and a surprise route march. The girls also experienced pitching their own tents, sleeping outdoors and cooking their own dinner. Teamwork and supporting each other to overcome boundaries, both physical and mental, were the themes of the camp and they rang true as the girls stood by each other through the tough moments.
It has been a good year and we thank God for seeing us through the challenges as we stood united as one company. We look forward to another meaningful year.
To God be the Glory!
