Girls Brigade

Over the years, there had been numerous blessings abundantly showered upon us. As such, we celebrated our Golden Jubilee with several ‘giving back’ projects.

During each school term, we had a focus group to ‘give back’ to – Elderly (Term 1), Environment (Term 2) and People with special needs (Terms 3 and 4).

We went for a morning walk in Bishan Park with the elderly signed with Lions’ Befrienders, did weeding with Ground-up Initiative and enjoyed an outing to Gardens by the Bay with the clients from MINDS (Tampines).

Amidst our ‘giving back’ projects, we also had a great time during a trip to a Trampoline Park, and farm visit to Bollywood Veggies as well as our Dialogue in the Dark session at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Our year was wrapped up with our final ‘giving back’ event which was a free market for the residents of our Ang Mo Kio community ala carnival style with booths giving free food, games or a chance to learn a new skill.

Apart from our 50th anniversary celebrations, we continued to work hard at our core business – developing each girl and officer to her fullest potential by Equipping, Empowering and Enabling: Every Girl a Leader, Every Officer a Servant Leader.

Part of such development is to expose our girls to service the needs of our community. Our Secondary Two girls are given chances to venture and wholeheartedly serve beneficiaries close to their hearts. Our Secondary Three girls – being more mature – have the opportunity to go beyond basic volunteerism and to reach out to an organization to plan and carry out a programme to meet the needs of that beneficiary.

Over the years, our upper secondary girls have given their time and love to the little children from Sparkletots kindergartens, and this year, one group reached out to the elderly from All Saints Home (Jurong East).

It has been a good year. We were blessed with another GOLD company award, received one silver and one bronze award for our National Competition (Low Guat Tin Challenge) and we thank God for seeing us through the challenges as we stood united as one company. We look forward to many more meaningful years to come.

To God be the Glory!
