Tier 2 Programmes

FOR OUR SECONDARY 2 TO 4 STUDENTS

Selected students who have demonstrated strong aptitude in Science will be given opportunities to further develop their talents in Science through our Tier 2 programmes.

In our Tier 2 programmes, these students will undergo more intensive investigations that will tap on the scientific inquiry skills acquired through the Tier 1 programmes to solve problems in the area of forensic and pharmaceutical science.

To nurture their appreciation of science, selected secondary 2 students will have the opportunity to visit our industry partner MATCOR in May. They will carry out activities using the latest technology employed by practitioners in the field of forensic science, exposing them to authentic work settings and real world issues. Through the Cyber forensics workshop offered by Singapore Poly in September, students will also learn about other aspects of forensic science.

To broaden and deepen their skills and knowledge in the area of pharmaceutical science, selected secondary 3 students will undergo a series of hands-on and minds-on activities, which leverages on the Advanced Elective Modules (AEM) offered by our polytechnics. This will put them in good stead should they decide to embark on a career in Singapore’s flourishing Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology industry and Research and Development sector.

To further stretch their potential in science, selected students will also have the opportunity to take part in competitions. Those who take part in STEM related competitions (e.g. National Science Experiment (NSE) Big Data Challenge, Shell Make the Future) may also be awarded the YEA Gold Award, which accords bonus points for individuals interested to pursue courses offered by the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering (MAE) at SP through the Direct Polytechnic Admissions exercise.
