DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION (DSA) EXERCISE 2021

The Guzheng Ensemble and Concert Band are well-established Performing Arts Groups in Presbyterian High School. Members demonstrate outstanding artistic accomplishments and have excelled at the Singapore Youth Festival Presentation.

The training programmes are carefully planned for optimal implementation to achieve the highest level of musicianship. The CCAs develop student leaders who live out the school values such as Integrity, Respect, Responsibility Resilience and Empathy. The school provides members with multiple opportunities to pursue their passion and contribute to the school and community through their creativity and artistic talents.

DSA EXPECTATION

Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1-4.

SELECTION CRITERIA

CCA ACHIEVEMENT

Students should have participated in the CCA applied for in their primary school and have a strong aesthetics background and interest in music.

MUSIC BACKGROUND

Students should preferably possess certificates for practical skills from Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), Trinity College or Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), other recognised examining boards in a concert band or guzheng instrument preferably woodwind, brass, percussion and string bass or drums.

CHARACTER

Students should possess a positive attitude and a sense of commitment, as described by their primary school instructor and teachers.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Application for DSA-Sec must be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 5 May 2021, 11am  to 1 Jun 2021, 3pm. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

SELECTION DETAILS

Date:   1 July to 31 August 2021

All audition /trial and interview will be done via video conferencing.

General Ability Test (GAT) and Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST) will not be included in our selection process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Who can apply for DSA?

All Primary 6 students who meet the selection criteria.

2. How do I apply?

Application for DSA-Sec must be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 5 May 2021, 11am to 1 Jun 2021, 3pm. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.

3. When and how will I know the results of my application?

All applicants will be informed of the results of their application by email.

4. What is the frequency and duration of training?

Training is conducted usually twice a week for 3 hours. However, training hours will increase during competition or concert periods.

5. My child is not in a MOE school. What is the application procedure?

Any child not in MOE mainstream primary schools will need to apply for a Registration Number to access the DSA-Sec Portal. They may refer to MOE website at https://go.gov.sg/nmsdsa-sec-application.

6.  How DSA-Sec selection will be carried out this year?

The selection process will be carried out via video conferencing.
