On 3 January 2017, students gathered at the Bethel Hall in the morning for the annual commencement service to kick start the new school year. It is a school’s tradition to start the new academic year by giving thanks to God for His abundant blessings; and seeking His continuous guidance and wisdom for the staff and the students as we start a brand new year. There were also many eager parents of the Secondary One students in our midst.
The service started with the singing of the National Anthem and the recital of the National Pledge. Pastor Jordon went on stage to lead the school in the singing of various Christian hymns. Next, Rev. Wee led the school in a prayer and delivered his speech about the school. The Secondary One students sat through the service with excitement and anticipation as this was a brand new experience for them.
hall was met with a thunderous applause when the Principal, Mr Victor Owyong, was
invited on stage to deliver his speech to the students. He shared on the
attributes encapsulated in the acronym G.R.A.C.E (Greeting. Readiness. Attire.
Cleanliness. Expectations) which the school wishes to inculcate in the students
and other values which the school aspires for the students to demonstrate. He
also shared on the motto of the school and the meaning behind it and expressed
that many students in the Secondary One cohort has chosen Presbyterian High
School as one of their top three choices. Mr Owyong continued to share about
the academic successes of the 2016 Secondary Four Normal (Academic) and Normal
(Technical) cohort at the GCE ‘N’ Level Examination. He ended his segment by
